OpenVMS Security Analysis

OpenVMS is the most secure, general-purpose operating system available. However, as with any system, it's security can be greatly affected by how it is configured. PARSEC Group has the experience to configure your OpenVMS systems securely based on your needs and applications.

PARSEC Group wrote the class on OpenVMS security. Our consultants average over 26 years of experience with OpenVMS and can use their experience and knowlege to help you with your OpenVMS security needs. If you would like some training on OpenVMS security, check out the OpenVMS System, Network and Internet Security class.

The 4-A's of Security

PARSEC Group can help you with the 4 A's of security. These are:

  • Authentication - validating who the user is
  • Authorization - granting system access to authenticated users
  • Access - providing access to the use of select system resources
  • Auditing - tracking security related events on the system

Authentication

PARSEC Group can work with you set up proper authentication on your OpenVMS systems. This includes:

  • Verifying who the proper users are
  • Having a secure and enforcable password policy
  • Having accountability through individual accounts
  • Configuring SSH authentication keys
  • Enabling OpenVMS authentication in your Secure Web Server

PARSEC Group can implement a site-specific password policy for your OpenVMS systems. Depending on the version of OpenVMS, this may allow your VMS systems to have the same security policy enforced as that you have implemented on your UNIX, Linux and Microsoft Windows platforms.

Authorization

Authorization includes enabling proper privileges and quotas on each account, along with restricting system access to those times when the user should have access. PARSEC Group can help with the proper setting up of user accounts and restricting the use of those accounts as appropriate for each set of users.

Access

PARSEC Group can set up proper security on your files and databases so that authorized and authenticated users have access to only the data they need to get their job done. We can work with your system managers and programmers to insure that other resources; such as group and system global sections, common event flag clusters, queues, devices, logical names, and more are kept properly secure.

Auditing

PARSEC Group can assist you with your security auditing needs. This includes:

  • Determining what information should be audited
  • Configuring how long the security data will be available
  • Generating security reports
  • Automating these tasks

Don't be caught short when it comes to security. Contact PARSEC Group about your OpenVMS security needs by calling us at 888-4-PARSEC, send e-mail to experts@parsec.com or use our inquiry form.
